Between 2023 and 2025, transactional API requests (POST) jumped from 20% to 43% of all traffic, according to Treblle's 2025 Anatomy of an API report. The increase reflects more companies using APIs for order placement, payments, workflow orchestration, and execution of business actions. APIs are now primarily used as business assets.
Besides this transformation, APIs also sped up. The average load time went from 780 to 322 ms in 2025, making APIs almost lag-free. However, security and governance were ignored in the service of speed. It’s like running a Formula 1 car with bicycle brakes. It’s a security disaster waiting to happen.
