In the ever-moving world of software development, APIs have been seen to be essential with requests to APIs accounting to 80% of the entire traffic on the internet.

With this ever increasing usage of APIs to power software development, there is need to pay attention to API Security. At Treblle, we are committed to not only giving you the tools to monitor and observe your APIs, but we also want to nudge you in the right direction on industry best practices in building robust and secure APIs.

We recently released API Security - A feature of Treblle that let's you stay on top of any security threat to your API. Treblle check every single API request for things like SQL injections, IP reputation, authorization headers and SSL.

So in the spirit of fostering the building of quality and secure APIs, we are happy to announce the API Security Hackathon by Treblle - a 5-day hackathon that kicks of on the 3rd of July, 2023 to the 7th of July, 2023 🎉.

Collaboration

Alongside the requirements above, the API Security Hackathon by Treblle is going to be a team-based hackathon. This means each contestant is expected to be a team with 2 - 3 developers.

We also want to foster global collaboration on building APIs and the hackathon has been designed to do just that.

Languages and frameworks

Contesting teams may use any programming language and frameworks that are supported by Treblle (see this section of the Treblle docs for supported languages and frameworks)

APIs built by contesting teams

Contesting teams have the full flexibility of building any sort of APIs they fancy. We only ask that whatever APIs built by contesting teams should meet the requirements stated above.

Judges and mentors 👩🏽‍⚖️

We will be providing the contesting teams with API experts from the Treblle team as judges and mentors: Steve McDougall, Christopher Miller, and Kelvin Omereshone and also a special guest judge - Stephen Rees-Carter, a PHP & Laravel Security Specialist.

Also, our in-house API experts will serve as mentors for all contesting teams during the duration of the hackathon. This is an amazing opportunity for contestants to learn from these experts.

Prizes 🤑

The API Security Hackathon by Treblle will have 3 set of winners, with the following prizes

  • $1,000 worth of prizes to the 3rd place winning team,
  • $2,000 worth of prizes to the 2nd place winning team, and
